A. black and decker used to (still might) make a pilot point drill bit call "Bullet" bits. They cut extemely clean, even in Plexiglass. I found this site... you should be able to call around and ask for them by name; you wont be disappointed.

What are the hard bits on my cats paw pads?
Q. My cat has just started going outside and i've noticed that he's got some hard bits on his pads, the main one is on the pad up his leg. It feels really hard and its slightly raised. At first i thought he'd got some gravel or something in it, but theres no blood/scabs and it isn't causing him any pain. Is it just like hard skin on humans or do i need to take him to the vets?
Asked by vicky basford - Wed Jan 30 17:09:29 2008 - Cats - 6 Answers - Comments

A. My cat has that too and she doesn't even go outside. It is probably because they are worn from walking on different surfaces. I know my dad works A LOT and his hands get like that.

What do the common equitation bits help with?
Q. I've just decided to start competing in equitation. I used to do jumpers, and i used a 3 ring elevator bit which worked out okay, but not great. The more common bits used in equitation rounds are the dee ring, eggbutt, full cheek, and pelham. What do each of these bits do and what will they help with in my ride?
Asked by p-sizzle - Sun Nov 23 00:31:36 2008 - Horses - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Your elevator bit wouldn't be looked upon kindly, you're right. If you're riding the same horse, then you will have to look at something a bit more severe than the dee ring, eggbutt or full cheek snaffles, these are all "direct pull" bits with no leverage. A pelham will give you both the option of using more of the snaffle rein or the curb rein, your call but if you're not used to riding with double reins, this maybe more of a handicap than an advantage. I'd stay go with a kimberwick. This way you can have your leverage bit without having to use two reins. You can also choose the amount of leverage you want to use on your horse, a well as the mouth piece (Curb, jointed, etc.).

How do I make candles out of crayons and bits of scented wax?
Q. I am making candles for the holiday, but all i have are crayons, and these scented bits of wax. I was asking if anybody knew how to make candles out of crayons and wax without having the trouble of going to the hobby store. I was thinking about using a mug as a mold, but I don't know if that is any good. I don't know how to melt the wax though, but I already have the wicks. Anybody know what to do?

How can I calculate the number of bits on a compact disc?
Q. Can anyone help me with this... A compact disk has a resolution of 16 bits and a sampling frequency of 40 k Hz. If the recording lasts for 30 minutes, how many bits dose the disc contain? Thanks a million to anyone who can help me.
Asked by Nick78 - Sun May 10 14:55:22 2009 - Homework Help - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Sampling frequency of 40 k Hz means 40 000 times per second. I am not sure exactly what the "resolution of 16 bits" means in respect of sound recording, but I will assume that it means that it reads 16 bits in each sample, so that the number of bits read per second is 40 000 x 16 = 640 000 bits, or 64 x 10^4. If the recording lasts for 30 minutes, that is 30 x 60 = 1800 seconds, then at a rate of 64 x 10^4 bits per second, the disc will have to contain 1800 x 64 x 10^4 bits, that is, 1152 x 10^6 bits.

How do I remove rust from magnetic drill bits?
Q. I have a nice socket wrench set with magnetic drill bits for a screwdriver. Somehow moisture got into the kit box, and the drill bits are covered with rust. How do I remove the rust from these?
Asked by wildmick21 - Sun Sep 21 13:30:13 2008 - Maintenance & Repairs - 3 Answers - Comments

A. there are several good answers you have received already but let me add mine. Lay all the rusted drill bits and tools on newspaper or a rag then spray with either WD-40 or Rust Buster let them soak a couple minutes then if u have access to a rotary wire wheel use that to remove the rust or use a stiff wire brush.(you can buy a set at Home Depot or Wall Mart or any of those stores for less than $5.00. Anyway use them along with more spray to remove the rust. (Don't use a grinding wheel as u will destroy the tools. After removing the rust before storing the tools coat them with a fine coating of vaseline to protect them in the future. (Vaseline is clean and does a fine job). Contact me for further information.

How do the little drill bits fit?
Q. I just bought a Bosch 18V Cordless drill and bought a 14 piece set of Milwaukee drill bits and was wondering how the 1/16 to 5/32 fit? Doesnt seem like they can go down to the very bottom, is their an adaptor you buy or what? cool, thanks.
Asked by Blake H - Tue Aug 11 23:24:47 2009 - Do It Yourself (DIY) - 3 Answers - Comments

A. You don't need them to go down to the bottom. Drill bits are held in place by the pressure of the "jaws". When you drill you should drill slowly enough so you don't have to put too much pressure on the tip of the bit. Let the spinning of the bit cut its own way into the surface you are drilling. You can adjust the depth of the bit to accommodate the depth you need to drill.

I have black bits in the water dispensing from my fridge - amyone know what it is and how I can get rid of it?
Q. The black bits are not solid - more of a gel or slime like substance! The fridge is badged Smeg but I think it's manuafactured by Whirlpool. The water dispenser is plumbed and so fills automatically from the water supply. I don't have this problem with tap water so believe it's to do with the appliance. Would be great if any one has any ideas on how to fix this.
Asked by Farside - Wed Feb 20 05:31:36 2008 - Maintenance & Repairs - 4 Answers - Comments

A. I would contact Whirlpool and tell them about your problem and see what they suggest. It may be fungi, but it may also be something mechanically wrong with your ice dispenser.

What are the yellow bits on ladybug wing covers?
Q. I've noticed a lot of ladybugs recently that have little yellow bits sticking out on their wing covers. Are these eggs of a parasite or the eggs of the ladybugs themselves or something else?
Asked by Jesica P - Sat Nov 15 22:54:52 2008 - Zoology - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Depending if the little yellow bits move, then more than likely it could be a parasite. If it doesn't then it's likely to be pollen from different plants, Ladybugs have two sets of wings the elytra the top set of wings protects the second set called the flight wings underneath. They lay their eggs on the undersides of leaves.

How can I put bits of several photographs into one image or file? Like to put on a social networking site?
Q. I'm really inept when it comes to desktop publishing and image manipulation. I don't know how to use Photshop and don't own it. How can I create a collage, so to speak, of a couple bits of different pictures into one "picture" or photo. And is there freeware out there that I can do that with, or will programs like MS Office picture manager or Kodak Easyshare that I have work for this?
Asked by devilindc - Fri Sep 14 20:45:06 2007 - Software - 1 Answers - Comments

A. You might be able to locate some freeware/shareware that you can do this with. If you have a pc you have Paint. A collage is simple to make in Paint. Open the program Paint. If it does not open with a white space on it click File>New. If its already got a white space on it click on Image>Attributes. A dialog box will open. You will have several choices. The one you are looking for is Units. Select Inches. You can select Pixels if you want to. Any of them will work. Enter the dimensions that you want for your image. For relationships there are between 72 and 96 pixels in an inch on most computer screens. Now you have your canvas. Click on File>Save. A dialog box will open asking you where to save the picture to. Save the blank… [cont.]

What attachment do I need to buy to use small drill bits with my dremel?
Q. It needs to be able to hold #68 drill bits, which are 0.031 inches in diameter. I need to use really small drill bits with my dremel and it looks like I need some kind of attachment for the dremel to hold the bits. Do Lowes or Home Depot sell some sort of attachment?
Asked by Darth Revan - Wed Dec 30 17:58:08 2009 - Do It Yourself (DIY) - 4 Answers - Comments

A. it depends on what dremel tool you have the the chuck size of the bits you will be using. Most modern tools have adjustable chucks so that even small bits fit. I know I have seen adapters sold, but neither Lowes or Home depot have them on-line, you might want to take your tool and the bits you want to use to the store with you and ask them directly for advice.
