How can I set up 5 PC (office network) with different version of windows and microsoft office ( world)?
Q. When I try to open the docs.(through the office network), I find them in the different page set up,different font

A. As long as ur Os' has network support then its not any poroblem in setting up an network between. Diffrent versions of Windows are bundled with differents fonts. Fonts like Times Roman is comman font but like Comic Sans is introdused in win 95b. What u can do is gether all the fonts in one folder and just stream that folder out to other PCs. Just copy all fonts files form C:\Windows\Fonts to an independent folder. Take the newest last and overriting all the files when coping. Then u can just copy them back in the fonts folder under windows. Differnt page setup deppends on defferent versions of office. New version of office has a newer set of document saving instructions. Its bit hard for old Office versions to open new Office versions… [cont.]

A. No, it can be unsafe as your office may be equipped with monitoring programs (such as keylogger) or network traffic sniffer. Do online banking stuff in your own computer only. Hope this helps :)

How to set up a home/small office network?
Q. I had previously asked a similar question, but I think I need to explain further. I don't want to just print from a wireless printer. I want to be able to print from the two printers I have in the house that are not wireless. I need to set up a network. Can any one help?
Asked by james a - Tue Nov 17 13:10:08 2009 - Computer Networking - 2 Answers - Comments
A. Router (Wireless) will get you the wireless network. Network printer/s will let you share the printer/s. Buy a router and set a local area network, if the printer/s are not wireless, you can make the printer/s files share within your network.

How to connect my home pc with my office network or any pc by broadband?
Q. I want to connect my home pc to my office network or any pc through broadband.
Asked by Surja Sen - Wed Jul 23 07:45:46 2008 - Computer Networking - 7 Answers - Comments
A. To connect your home pc to your office network, you need the proper credentials from your network administrator to be able to log in through its VPN. To connect to 'any' pc you would also need access to that pc/network. PC Anywhere is a good software, but both parties need to have it installed. Remote Desktop Assistance is also another way to remotely gain access to someone's pc, but requires authorization also.

Outlook 2007- How do I share my calendar on my small office network witouth a server?
Q. I want to set it up so that each person in my office can access the calendar and make changes. Set appointments, change things, ect... We do not have a server becuase my boss is way to cheap to buy one. Any ideas? Or does anyone know where I can get a free server.
Asked by - Tue Oct 27 12:21:15 2009 - Computer Networking - 3 Answers - 1 Comments
A. I have actually come across the same problem with one of my customers. The way around this to set up a free account with Google calendar, then download and install the Google Calendar sync program, made by Google, and do a manual sync every time you make any changes to the calendar as the auto sync is about every 10 mins. This is will make your calendar info available to anyone you choose to share your Google calendar with, and you can even give them authority to make changes, and then when you sync, you get the changes to your Outlook calendar. It's realy an elegant solution. If you need help with this or any other computer related question, you can check me out at: or here: Charles.

Can a office network be set up on microsoft server 2000 in 3 hours?
Q. that previously had symantec on it, but had it removed. the office has 10 computers in total, 1 is a server, 9 are desktop pc's where useres from the office log in, make documents, browse internet, do daily work, etc. current status, some computers in the network are unable to access shared files/folders.
Asked by camronphil - Thu May 29 02:23:44 2008 - Computer Networking - 1 Answers - Comments
A. I don't quite fully understand your question. Is this server already setup and you are having problems or are you asking can it be setup from scratch? If you are setting this up from scratch then the answer is no. I would estimate between 4-6 hours to set this up properly. Please list more details.

I'm getting ready to convert our office network over to a Windows Domain. How would I try to explain this?
Q. I'm getting ready to switch a 50+ user office network over to a domain. (Yes, it's a massive workgroup) I was wondering what my fellow IT pros would do to ready the office personnel for what to expect. I wanted to put out a newsletter about why I'm making the changes, and the benefits of me doing the switch. Thanks anyone who can help.
Asked by John - Sat Jul 12 15:31:24 2008 - Computer Networking - 1 Answers - Comments
A. If you properly import each user's profile from their local profile into the domain profile, the users shouldn't have too much trouble adjusting. Are you currently running a Microsoft server or is everything just peer-to-peer sharing? If it's just a bunch of peer-to-peer, explain the advantage of a centralized location to store all data so it's available from all workstations, and able to be backed from a single location. If you're already running a server for centralized storage, there aren't that many advantages for the end-users, just for you as an administrator... If you don't currently have a server, have you already purchased the server and software? If you haven't, then it means you aren't running any specialized microsoft software… [cont.]

How do I setup an office network with a network switch?
Q. I need to setup up an office network with a network switch where I can connect the building's main network to one computer and allow other terminals to access the web through the main computer. Don't want the switch to issue any new IP addresses on the main building's network. Any suggestions??

A. It sounds like you need something like Internet Connection Sharing in Windows ( In that scenario, the main computer would have two NICs - one to the building network and the other to the switch.

How do i setup a router inside an existing office network?
Q. I've just moved into a new office space and I am using the current company's internet connection. However, i'd like to setup my own router inside the network using the available wall port. Is that possible?
Asked by - Fri May 8 14:21:03 2009 - Computer Networking - 4 Answers - Comments
A. Actually, assuming your company network is giving out DHCP, then if you plug in a small router, it will get the private IP of your company's network on the outside connection, and you'll get an IP on your side from a different private network (you may have to change the internal network IP if it's the same as the companies. You shouldn't have to do anything else, and just plug it in to work. It won't matter if you're behind a switch or other router. From the internal network's perspective, the router will just look like any other network card, and it will assign an IP to it. You'll then just route from private to private networks.

A. Sounds like he may have blocked traffic on port 80. Or they may just have an accepted list of sites that you can get to. You could try a proxy but if either of the two things I mentioned are true then you're probably not going to be able to, everything is blocked by the firewall or content filter. If you can get out to your home IP address you could set up your own proxy or remote into your home computer and surf from there.

A. You'll need to update the ACL to allow the IP in question access. This is done using the ACL command in conjunction to the http_access command. Check out the man pages or the link below for more details. Good luck, Rick

Q. Looking to work from home, but still for my current employeer. Is there anyway to network the computers wirelessly? So I have access to all documents and files I would if I were on a networked computer in the office.

A. You need to go to your company's IT dept and check if they allow VPN (virtual private networking). With VPN, you use your high speed internet connection at home to create a tunnel from your house to the office. Once the tunnel is secured, you have access to whatever the IT dept makes available to you over the VPN. If your company is without an IT dept, and if it is ok with your employer, you could alternatively use a software like PCAnywhere. You install it on your office pc and your home pc, and then leave your office pc on when you go home. Then when you're home, you launch PCAnywhere and it connects to and takes control of your office pc. You can then do anything from your home pc that you could do if you were sitting at the office pc.… [cont.]

How can I connect printer using my small office network?
Q. I have four computers which work together in small office network wired connected via ethernet switch. printer is connected through one of my computer. how can i put this printer in network so that I can print when I use other computers. OS is Win Xp.

A. Set all the machines to the same workgroup name if they are not already. You can do this from the network wizard. You need to open the firewall exception for file and printer sharing on the machine with the printer. Right click the printer, set it shared. On all other machines go to network places and browse to the machine with the printer. Double click the machine, you should see the printer. Double click it to install it locally.

Can we use office network at home on laptop or on mobile for connectivity purpose?
Q. I want to use my office network or the Internet on my laptop or on my mobile phone. Can we sync the connectivity to these things? If yes, how can we do that?
Asked by kir_chandu2004 - Fri Nov 14 11:04:30 2008 - Computer Networking - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Technically there are different ways to do that, and they basically depend on how the rest of the computers get access to the Internet (through a router, proxy server, user validation, ...). You should really talk to the network administrator, as your company may have policies that prohibit the connection of personal devices to the network infrastructure.

A. Network people should not be designing your web site. You wouldn't go see a eye doctor if your toe hurts. :) I am a professional web designer for in Raleigh, North Carolina. I hear people every day needing their web site redesigned because it was done by a novice. Ask your IT person how they optimize your web site for search engines, how they make them usable for people with disabilities and which browsers and resolution design specs they adhere to. To keep in mind of price, our prices start at just $199. If they can't beat us, please drop us a line! For Networking I would ask how many hours to install, how much additional for hardware and what are maintenance and emergency service costs.

Q. He told me to have questions ready for him when he comes but I really don't know much about computers and networking. I am the office manager for a small company. Thanks.
